  1. My favorite birthdays always included a homemade strawberry cake made by my grandmother. My birthday is in the summer, so sometimes we'd go pick strawberries as a family, and then use some of the berries to make my cake. It seems so simple: strawberries, cake, and family, but these little joys are the ingredients to my favorite birthdays past.

  11. My birthday is in December and as a child I always wanted a pool party. One year, my mom rented out a local hotel's indoor pool and had a surprise birthday party. It was so special to me and I will never forget it!

  12. I guess my 16th and 50th - while near was a complete surprise, may 16th was spent with lots of friends and my 50th was spent with family and close friends - why especially they stick out, I don't know, unless it was the milestones - ah, if I only knew at 16 what I knew at 50 - some changes would have been made.
